BNVD-1431 Night Vision Binocular (IPVS-1431)

The IPVS-1431 is a military-grade binocular night vision goggle developed by INFREDAR, engineered around a unique dual-platform architecture: the proven structural framework of the AN/PVS-31A combined with the optical system of the AN/PVS-14. The result is a rugged, fully compatible dual-tube system that accepts the complete ecosystem of PVS-14 standard lenses and aftermarket components — giving procurement teams and OEM integrators a binocular platform with unmatched accessory flexibility, Gen 2+ or Gen 3 tube options, and significant cost advantage over U.S.-origin equivalents, with no ITAR restrictions.

IPVS-1431 Binocular Night Vision Goggle — Two Platforms. One System. Total Compatibility.

A Different Kind of Binocular Platform

Most binocular night vision goggles are closed ecosystems. The AN/PVS-31A uses proprietary optics optimized for its specific tube and housing — offering excellent performance but no interchangeability with the broader PVS-14 accessory market.

The IPVS-1431 takes a different approach. By building on the structural chassis of the AN/PVS-31A while adopting the optical architecture of the AN/PVS-14, it becomes the only binocular platform in its class that is fully compatible with the global PVS-14 lens and accessory ecosystem. Every third-party objective lens, magnifier, lens cover, and optical adapter built to PVS-14 standard fits the IPVS-1431 directly — no adapters, no modifications, no procurement complications.

For agencies and OEMs that have already standardized on PVS-14 optics and accessories, the IPVS-1431 delivers a direct binocular upgrade path that preserves existing inventory investment.

PEEK Housing: Built for Maximum Durability

The IPVS-1431 is constructed from high-performance PEEK composite polymer. While the AN/PVS-31A’s lightweight polymer housing is optimized for minimum head-borne weight, the IPVS-1431’s PEEK structure prioritizes structural rigidity and sustained durability — delivering a measurably more robust platform for units operating in high-impact, high-wear environments. At ≤600g, the weight premium over the AN/PVS-31A is modest, and the structural return is meaningful.

Key material properties:

  • Superior structural rigidity and heat resistance across the full operating range
  • Full corrosion resistance to salt, moisture, fuel, and field cleaning solvents
  • Non-conductive and non-magnetic — relevant for EOD and signals-sensitive environments
  • Operating temperature range of -40°C to +60°C, storage to -55°C / +70°C

Optical System: FMC Glass with Full PVS-14 Compatibility

The IPVS-1431 uses an FMC (Fully Multi-Coated) ultra-wideband optical glass system with vacuum ion anti-reflective coatings on every lens surface, delivering:

  • High light transmittance across the full spectral range
  • Excellent halo suppression around artificial light sources
  • Low edge distortion for a clean, usable image across the full 40° FOV
  • Stable imaging in mixed and complex lighting environments
  • A focusing range from 0.25m to infinity for both close-quarters and long-range use

The objective lenses are built to PVS-14 standard dimensions with full mounting thread compatibility, allowing direct attachment of the complete range of PVS-14 magnifiers and aftermarket lenses. A 50° field of view optical system is currently in development and will be available as an upgrade option upon release.

Key Procurement Advantages

1. Full PVS-14 Ecosystem Compatibility

No other binocular NVG on the market offers this. The IPVS-1431 accepts the complete range of PVS-14 standard objective lenses, magnifiers, and aftermarket accessories — a global supply ecosystem built over two decades. For procurement programs already operating PVS-14 systems, existing optical accessories carry over directly to the binocular platform, eliminating redundant procurement of lens sets and adapters.

2. Manual Gain Control as Standard

Unlike the IPVS-31A where manual gain is a custom option, the IPVS-1431 includes manual gain control as a standard feature — matching the AN/PVS-31A in this respect. Operators can fine-tune image brightness independently of the automatic brightness control system, optimizing image quality across varying ambient conditions without relying solely on automatic adjustment.

3. Wider Diopter Range Than the AN/PVS-31A

The IPVS-1431’s +2 to -6 diopter adjustment range is meaningfully wider than the AN/PVS-31A’s factory -0.5 setting and its optional diopter lens range of +2.0 to -2.0. This covers a broader spread of operator vision profiles as standard — reducing the need for individually fitted corrective inserts in large-unit procurement.

4. No ITAR — No Export Delay

The AN/PVS-31A is classified under ITAR as a defense article. Even the export-configured PVS-31K variant requires U.S. State Department approval on a case-by-case basis — with no guaranteed timeline and frequent denial for non-allied markets. The IPVS-1431 is manufactured in China with no U.S.-controlled components. Procurement proceeds on commercial timelines with no export license requirement and no approval risk.

5. Gen 2+ or Gen 3 — Up to FOM 2400+

The AN/PVS-31A ships exclusively with Gen 3 MX-11769 filmed tubes in white phosphor. The IPVS-1431 accommodates both Gen 2+ and Gen 3 image intensifiers, in green or white phosphor, with FOM levels available up to 2400+. For procurement programs where tube grade and phosphor type need to vary across a mixed fleet, this flexibility enables meaningful cost optimization without managing multiple hardware platforms.

6. Built-in IR Illuminator

The AN/PVS-31A does not include a built-in IR illuminator. The IPVS-1431 includes one as standard, providing zero-ambient-light operational capability without a separate weapon-mounted or helmet-mounted IR source — reducing the accessory burden on the operator.

7. Extended Battery Runtime

With a single onboard AA battery, the IPVS-1431 delivers 25–100 hours of runtime — compared to the AN/PVS-31A’s guaranteed minimum of 8 hours (average 16 hours) on a single AA. External battery connectivity via 4-pin Fischer port supports extended operations from vehicle or fixed-position power sources.

8. Configurable Waterproofing

IP65 is standard, providing full dust protection and high-pressure water jet resistance suitable for the majority of field environments. IP67 or IP68 is available as a custom configuration for applications requiring submersion capability, bringing protection to a level comparable with the AN/PVS-31A’s mil-spec 66 ft (20m) / 2-hour immersion rating.

9. Significant Cost Advantage

U.S. AN/PVS-31A units with high-FOM tubes trade at $10,000–$16,000+ per unit on the commercial market. The IPVS-1431 delivers dual-tube binocular performance with PVS-14 ecosystem compatibility at a fraction of that acquisition cost — making fleet-scale procurement viable for agencies and programs that would otherwise be priced out of the binocular NVG category.

Who the IPVS-1431 Is For

The IPVS-1431 is the right platform when:

  • PVS-14 compatibility matters — units already operating PVS-14 systems can equip a binocular upgrade while continuing to use the wide range of PVS-14-compatible accessories and components already available on the market
  • Manual gain control is required as a standard feature, not a custom option
  • Durability over weight — operating environments prioritize structural toughness over every gram of head-borne load reduction
  • Wide operator vision range — procurement covers personnel with varied vision profiles who benefit from the broader +2 to -6 diopter range
  • ITAR-free procurement is a hard requirement
  • Budget discipline requires dual-tube capability without the U.S. mil-spec price premium
